In today’s society everything is immediate – an email is sent, milliseconds later it is at its destination. We are not used to waiting for anything – we want it all and we want it now. When people don’t answer their phones we wonder what they are doing that they can’t answer their phone.
I am the type of person who likes to return phone messages as soon as possible. I hate waiting for people to call me back so I try to show them the same courtesy as I would expect. But it is necessary sometimes and one just has to be patient.
How long do you leave it after leaving a voice mail before you call that person back again? Does it depend on who the person is? Or will you wait indefinitely for them to return the call?
When I leave a message on a home phone of a friend and I don’t get a callback within a few hours I call again – I know that there are several people with the ability to listen to the message and it might not get to the right person. With a personal cell phone VM, I tend to wait longer – I know they will get my message and respond hopefully soon.
Looking forward to your responses.
