Name Calling

July 7, 2009 · 11 Comments

How would you respond to such a message left by an administrator at an educational establishment:

“Hi, Mrs….Mrs…..whatever your name is, I can’t keep track….” And then follows the message.

Would you address it, or just leave it alone?

This is so unprofessional. I would not and have not tolerated it. My last name is Zucker-Scharff and it always gets mangled. Most people apologize when trying to pronounce it. I make sure I always correct hose who don’t get it right – nicely. But that little word “whatever” is unacceptable. If they can’t keep track of a name, where else are they falling down on the job?

DO NOT CALL THEM BACK. Until they can call you by the proper name- ignore them. Should they ever take you up on it say- oh? I wasn’t aware you’d left ME a message.

BTW- HOW DARE THEY?!?! As IF you are the scarlet letter, the town floosie- humping and dumping husbands and ‘they’ can’t keep up?! SO PATHETIC!

I say call back and give the person’s supervisor a piece of your mind!

That does sound unprofessional. They should get their facts straight before they make a phone call.

Frayda took the words right out of my mouth….
    Better yet!
I’d PLAY THE MESSAGE for the supervisor, then demand an apology from the underling.

That is NOT OK. You have every right to raise a stink about this.
(By the way, I love Z’s “humping and dumping” comment.)

He has a tough job. A little rachmanus never hurt anyone.

As it stands now, one person is (legitimately) hurt no reason to make it two.

But if you happen to speak to his boss sometime just let on a little that he may want to monitor the professionalism a tad…

If they can’t remember your name, maybe you could forget theirs.

Wow, that’s rude!! I would be fuming. I would certainly wait until I calmed down before returning their call and then I’d probably prefer to deal with someone a little bit more professional and respectful if such a person were available.

    Unprofessional behaviour.
Call the school and make sure they know about it.
