Heinous or Harmless?

misc 001My Eleven year old son was given this tee shirt by a family member. He was very excited to wear it. I am horrified at the message – an eleven year old yeshivah boy needs to be aware of his effect on girls?

I have a good mind to disappear the shirt once it gets into the laundry. What are your thoughts?

UPDATE – the kid asked me to get rid of the shirt…..

For the KoD on Father’s Day

Here are some poems I have picked up on the web, for an awesome husband and an awesome dad and an awesome StepDad.

KoD – from the moment the kids met you they knew you were the one for me. They always tell me they appreciate you, they see how well you treat me and respect me, they see how we love each other – they want to have our kind of love when they grow up.

They look forward to your visits, and our visits to you. They cannot wait until we are all living as a complete family unit under the same roof. As you know, they fight over whose turn it is to speak with you on the phone – and I have to patiently wait my turn. You give them attention and time of day and make them feel so special. Thank you for all you do for all of us.

I know I haven’t always said
How I appreciate what you do
So I’m saying now, how blessed I feel
To have a step Dad just like you

I never got to choose you
You just became my ‘dad’
So I’m grateful to my mother
For the great taste that she had

A Step Father means so many things…
An understanding heart,
A source of strength and of support
Right from the very start.

A constant readiness to help
In a kind and thoughtful way.
With encouragement and forgiveness
No matter what comes your way.

A special generosity
And always affection, too
A Step Father means so many things
When he’s a man like you…

Stepfathers are no less than those of blood:
The spirit is more comely than the flesh.
Equally, two mysteries might mesh,
Paired by nature or by neighborhood
Fathers are defined by how they love,
And not by how they multiply or breed.
Though you did not supply the primal seed,
How you’ve loved me does your kinship prove.
Each child must turn when life’s too hard to bear,
Regarding someone’s arms or empty air.
So do I turn, and always you are there.

A Poem for My Stepfather

Although you are my step dad,
You’re really so much more;
We get along so well;
We have great rapport.

You always listen to me;
I know you really care;
When I really need you
I know that you’ll be there.

I’m learning really good things,
Just by watching you;
Thanks for being my step dad
And for being a good friend, too.

By Joanna Fuchs

Even though you’re not my dad, I know that you’ll be there
with the little things you do,
you let me know you care.
You’re always there to help, whatever the need may be,
you’ve given of yourself and so unselfishly.
You’ve become the dad that I have never known,
I feel close to you because of the kindness you have shown.
I just want to thank you and let you know I care,
a second dad as kind as you is really very rare.
You are the greatest Stepfather in the world.

I just want to let you know
You mean the world to me
Only a heart as dear as yours
Would give so unselfishly

The many things you’ve done
All the times that you were there
Help me know deep inside
How much you really care

Even though I might not say
I appreciate all you do
Richly blessed is how I feel
Having a Step-Dad just like you

I’m really glad now that we’re part
of the same family
You probably know I wasn’t so at first.
I guess I was just afraid…

Afraid that there wasn’t enough room
for both of us in the same family…
Afraid that I would be forgotten or
loved a little less than before you came along.

But somehow we’ve managed to weather all that
and grow closer too.
Now I realize how much
you’ve added to this family…
How much you’ve added to my life.

I just want to thank you
for being such a loving,
kind and patient step dad…

Such a very thoughtful,
very special person.

I Love You
