The Chief Rabbi’s Prayer for Haiti

To be recited this Shabbat. Will your shul recite it? (OK granted this was distributed to shuls in the UK, but there is no reason other shuls cannot adopt this prayer)

Adon ha-olamim

Sovereign of the universe,

We join our prayers to the prayers of others throughout the world, for the victims of the earthquake which brought destruction and disaster to Haiti and took so many lives.

Almighty God, we beseech you, send comfort to the bereaved, and healing to the injured.

Be with those who are engaged in the work of rescue. Grant strength to those who see to the needs of the injured and sick, give shelter to the homeless, and who provide sustenance to those in need.

Almighty God, we recognise how insignificant we are, and how helpless in the face of nature when its full power is unleashed.

Open our hearts in prayer and our hands in generosity, so that by our actions we may bring comfort, healing and support.

Help us now and all humanity as we seek to do what we can by helping people reconstruct their broken lives.

Ken Yehi Ratzon, ve-nomar.

  1. I am proud to be an Israeli – what we are doing is even better than prayer:

    • i couldn’t agree more. Israel has been awesome and seems to be only organized entity on the ground in Haiti that has been able to efficiently provide medical care to those in dire need. Kol HaKavod.

  2. I guess you haven’t heard yet but some individual is saying that the only reason that ZAKA has set up a field hospital is to harvest organs from Haitians to sell. Amazing, just amazing, it seems we can’t do anything right. I guess all we can do is continue to do the right thing and maybe the world will wake up.

  3. There’s an article in Ynet….just Google “Haiti Israel harvesting organs” or something. It is absolutely disgusting.

      • why do you feel ill H? he is just an Anti-semitic nutcase who is annoyed at all the positive attention that Israel is getting so he figures he may as well come up with an outrageous accusation against Israel’s motives.

        • I just read that article…disgusting is the exact description.

Sadly, you are right (although I feel ill too). The man’s comments about South Africa and the Palestinians said everything about his motivation (the tired old apartheid lie). Unfortunately, Israel will get no credit for doing the right thing because some people in this world are indeed anti-Semitic (this is clearly a case that this is not just anti-Zionist as he claims).

  4. Someone who’s worth nothing and doesn’t have anything good to say would always find a hate target to say bullshit about because it’s the easiest way to engage others…
