Ethical Dilemma

Stolen shamelessly from a friend’s FB wall. When you have cleaning help and / or regular babysitting help that you pay for by the hour – if you go away, or cancel, because of a Jewish holiday, and do not need to avail yourself of the cleaning lady / babysitter’s services, do you have to pay her? In full? Half? None? I am interested in hearing your thoughts.

Last Child to Marry

OK folks, friends of mine are marrying off their youngest child. The “children” have informed them that there will be a special ceremony during the celebratory meal and dancing to commemorate this event.

Is this primarily a Jewish custom? What happens at this ceremony? What are the origins of this custom? How have you seen it performed?

(I am not exactly sure what they do, which is why I am asking. My friends have no clue either).

What’s the first thing you do upon waking?

Other than pressing the snooze button, that is? My alarm goes off at 6 am and I almost always snooze it for ten minutes. But, my alarm is on my blackberry. So when it goes off again at 6.10 I grab for my glasses and while still waking up I check if there is any interesting email.

I feel that this is not such a great thing to do – however, once I have coffee on and the kids getting up and ready for school, I already have my work email opened and am dealing with lots of work-related issues.

I get my best work done early in the morning – and that initial look through of email jump starts my day. If I sleep in, (like that happens often!) it throws my whole day off.

So what’s the first thing YOU do upon waking?
