Nail cutting

At what age did your kids start cutting their own nails?

My little one is 9 and he has just started – he feels so grown up that he’s doing it on his own, but I feel like he should have started when he was younger. Apparently I baby this child way more than I did his older brothers, but we’re trying to move beyond that.

I don’t remember what I did for the older boys. But then again I have a friend who still cuts her 13 year old son’s nails for him…

What say you?

Just tell him to cut his toe nails straight across to prevent ingrown toenails…those hurt!

    teen girls too! 😦

  3. Is it totally disgusting that I love cutting my kids nails–and they are teens!! No I don’t do it regularly and I can’t remember when they started doing it on their own (young!) but every now and then I’ll notice them and ask to let me cut them (after a shower–softens and cleans ’em).

    And I know I’m strange….

  4. I don’t think it’s about age here. I think it’s about love. Let him have his freedom and independence but remind him that his Mama loves cutting his nails and not everyone’s Mama loves ’em that much. The only nails that scared me where my sisters’ when they were babies. I was so afraid I’d cut their fingers off. Otherwise, my sisters and I used to cut each other’s nails and paint them all the time.

  5. I cut my hubbie’s toe nails… I was very tempted to paint my mom’s nails for her when we were together last and I used to cut, file and paint my Bubbie’s nails. It’s an act of love.
