Wow, no kids. Just me and the KoD in the house right now. A-lone. I took my kids up to see their Dad, and the KoD’s bunch will be by a little later, but for now, this is a kid-less zone. It’s quiet. Like, really quiet. (OK, apart from the KoD playing the blues harmonica in his office).
I have been home 45 minutes. I managed to eat lunch, have a coffee and cookies without having to : share with anyone, break up a fight, negotiate return of lost items, kiss a boo boo. I am about to return to the kitchen to finish up my Shabbat cooking – and it will take me less time than usual because no one will be hungry for a snack, no one will be asking for more batteries for the Wii thing, no fights over the TV to break up.
Sounds blissful, doesn’t it?
But that “ima” call – much that it sometimes gets on my nerves like nails on a chalkboard – I miss it. I miss my boybies already although I will see them again on Sunday. I know they are having a grand old time, and I am happy for that.
Truth is, yes I miss them, yes I miss the being needed, but I am enjoying the breathing room. For the next few hours until KoD’s children come, I am just ME, just Hadassah, a person in her own right, not defined by her kids.
Linking to this video because the kids love doing this to me all the time.

Enjoy your me-time for the next few hrs that you have it! B/f you know it, you’ll have a full house for Shabbat & hopefully you’ll enjoy that too :)!!
You two are alone? What are you doing on the internet?! Hang out with your husband!
KoD plays blues harp? A man who plays blues harp is special indeed. Who’s playing does he like?
Mordechai,
I am fond of Little Walter, Big Walter Horton, Sonny Boy Williamson (I & II), Rick Estrin (Little Charlie & The Nightcats), Kim Wilson, Mark Hummel, Rod Piazza, etc. etc.
Enjoy the silence.
